  1. According to Phyllis, businesses should be spending atleast 40% of their time on ALL marketing efforts. If a business is too busy on other efforts, then they need to find ways of outsourcing their marketing.
  2. Before creating a social media strategy, a business needs to have a clear understanding of WHO their ideal customer is (usually you can find this out using existing research), WHERE they are hanging out (which social media channels are most appropriate for your business), and WHAT are they interested in learning from you or your business (what kind of value do they want from you).

This is another excellent conversation in the series of Facebook marketing tutorials and case studies where Janice Clark of BizMSolutions shares some great lessons and two case-studies of successful marketing campaigns she ran for her clients. The first case study is about generating approx. 3500 Facebook Likes for her client who was starting out from scratch and was also getting her website built. The second case study is about generating targeted email opt-ins of potential prospects for her client who is about to launch a new course. She really breaks it down so you have to watch the interview to get a full understanding of the finer details.

I learned a few new strategic and tactical concepts in this interview.

The first one is about using a LAYERED social media strategy. Janice suggests not using just one social media channel (although you may have a favourite) but a combination not only to target a bigger demographic but different social media channels can support each other. For example, whenever she creates a new Facebook post, it automatically creates a tweet on twitter with the link to the new Facebook post which helps drive more traffic to the post.
